Working with Bloom’s Taxonomy.

Recently on lists I subscribe to, there has been some discussion on a new revision of Blooms’ Taxonomy relevant to the digital world.  In essence, the highest order of thinking has become “creating”.  This certainly represents the digital pedagogy age.

One way I’ve had of engaging my students with an understanding of Blooms’ Taxonomy is what I call “Capturing Blooms.”  In essence, each group has a camera and they are to capture images that represent the levels of thinking within the taxonomy.  In a near future session for teachers, I will expand this capture to challenge the attendees.  As well as image options, specified groups will capture sound and others video.

This always provides a range of stimuli for discussion, and the discussion certainly aids in developing understanding of the levels of thinking represented.

Two (2) sites that may be of further interest are Blooms’ Digitally and Educational Origami.
